Review Page 6 of your new Hal Leonard guitar book and see if you can push yourself to read through page 7. If you need to be reminded about the time value of whole notes, half notes and quarter notes, check out the bottom of page 5.
Chord Exercise 1: Em to G
Follow the instructions to place the correct fingers for Em and practice moving your 3rd finger to form the base of the G chord. Strum each chord once downwards (low sounding strings first) as you move them, and possibly try four times each. Try adding your pinky to make the full G chord.
